Laying The Foundation: Looking For Inspiration, Encouragement, Resources For Christian Website/blog

Recommended Posts

Thank you. I also found a cool Youtube video (link here) on how to use Wordpress and the Extra theme from ElegantThemes in order to setup a beautiful blog website from scratch. The video, however, is almost 2 hours and 20 minutes long. I haven't watched the entire video just yet (only a portion of it), but as far as my schedule is concerned I'll likely find some time tomorrow (Thursday) to watch it in it's entirety.

Checked out your site, couldn't plow through your first post here though. The site seems well structured, you seem to have the menu tree designed well, now you need to compose, at a minimum, an About Us and a What We Believe, In fact, before you send out an all-clear for people to come visit your site, you'll want to replace all the text that's 'lorum ipsum' with actual content. Bit of a tall task, that.

As far as composing articles for apologetics blog posts, if you are looking for ideas for topics, I can list a few below, but the resources you identified a few posts ago in this thread should give you better ideas. However, let me caution, whatever you decide to do, make sure everything you post is either in your own words, or give attribution to any quotes of any other websites or literature, and links to the actual posts if online. No sense souring a good work with accusations of plagiarism.

Some ideas for blog posts are:

What is Apologetics?

How do you make an apology for your faith without apologizing for it?

When to Walk Away - when a discussion becomes an argument

Sharing your faith without words

What is the Gospel, Really?

Who Does the Work of Salvation?

Hard Sayings of the Bible

Defending the Faith

What is a Doubtful Disputation?

Just a handful to get you started. You might want two or more blog posts up before you spread the word, just so visitors have a bit of material to read, it leads them to follow the site. Oh, and create a rigid schedule of posts - will you post articles once a week? Twice a week? Every other week? Too often, and you drain yourself. Too infrequent, and your stagnant site will lose visitors rapidly.

Articles should be brief. Not even as long as this post. Base rule is around 500 words. A quick read with good info makes for a returning visitor and a satisfied follower.

UPDATE!!!: Here lately I have been plagued by technical difficulties and problems with my computer and whilst being in the midst of trying to fix it having gotten rather sidetracked on working on my website and blog. After all, I really need my computer as a tool to work on my website and blog and if it's giving me problems that's going to make it difficult to even access my website and blog. Thankfully, I am CompTIA A+ Certified and I do know some stuff about fixing computers, thus I have been able to pinpoint the cause of the problems and come up with a solution, but the kinds of computer problems I've been having were of no simple matter, rather complicated and complex and it has taken me quite a bit of time to get it repaired. I'm not quite there yet to getting this problem fully resolved, but I am awfully close, and should be fully back up and running again soon, hopefully, ready for prime time! Just sayin' my prayers now. . . :|

Well, Happy New Year! It's a new year, goodbye 2017, hello 2018, and time to hit the refresh button! Amen to that!

I guess after it becoming a distraction from my normal routine I have finally gotten my computer to behave itself and NOT give me anymore SERIOUS problems. It bewilders, though, me what I had to go through and what I had to do just to tame (repair) this BEAST (my computer), though, but perhaps it's best I just keep that to myself. ;) ;) Nudge. Nudge.

Anywayz. . . Now that my computer is fixed and it is a new year, it's back to work on my blog/website and a fresh new start! I've even chosen a new theme (Divi) and layout (Josefin Church from BeSuperFly.com) for the site that is simpler and easier to use than the previous one. It's called the Divi theme, from Elegant Themes, and while it may not have as many features (bells & whistles) as the Extra theme (which I probably don't need right now anyway), it is much simpler, easier to use and easier to learn, even for beginners to website design, and therefore the learning curve is not nearly as steep as the Extra theme. Hopefully this will work out much better for me right now, and perhaps later on, after gaining some more experience with this project and learning some more stuff, I can switch back over to the Extra theme if I ever need any of it's bells and whistles! ;)

Okay, so time to get going, again!. . .

Well, it seems that old serpent, the snake, that enemy of mine called the devil, or Satan, has been up to his old tricks here lately, and has been quite busy trying to cause problems in my life, placing obstacles in my path, and generally trying to distract and discourage me from doing good work. Basically, the following Bible passage sums up my situation:

“You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.

“Not only that—count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—give a cheer, even!—for though they don’t like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company. My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble. --Matthew 5:10-12 (The Message)

In other words, if this is what I have been experiencing, then I must be doing something right! ;);) Nudge. Nudge.

Though, it seems since transitioning into this New Year of 2018, my troubles have quieted down quite a bit and things are relatively at peace once again, with the exception of some occasional minor annoyances, but this is quite normal and, ah, such is life! ;) Here lately, I've began committing to spending at least 2 hours a day working on this project (minus the Sabbath) and plan to continue it until the website has been designed and the first blog article is written (and then some), and I think that's quite reasonable given my schedule the way it is right now. God be with me! Amen to that!!! ꝉ ꝉ ꝉ
